RPM is aware of an employment scam whereby people are representing themselves as being involved with reputable organisations such as RPMGlobal. These people are not connected with our company in any way. This is an elaborate scam that leverages the trusted and reputable brand of RPMGlobal, which has been in business for over 50 years.

What is recruitment fraud?

Recruitment fraud is a sophisticated fraud involving fake job offers under the RPM name, offered to job seekers over various platforms such as social media, email, phone and messenger. Perpetrators have the goal of assessing personal details or money, to potentially use for identity theft.

RPMGlobal is not associated with recruitment fraud in any way. All job listings are located on our website here, and are coordinated with our Human Resources team.

Warning signs of recruitment fraud

• Request for money – often early on
• Request for personal information such as passport or bank account details
• Use of emails without @rpmglobal.com. All job offers and communication from RPM will include an RPMGlobal listed email address
• Recruiters being evasive when asked about the job/company in question
• Unsolicited communications regarding an opportunity you didn’t seek out
• Unprofessional communication with errors and poor formatting
• Sense of urgency in communications

Our best practices

• All interviews are conducted either in-person or on well-known dedicated business tools. RPMGlobal does not use Skype, Telegram or WhatsApp.
• We only contact candidates via emails using the RPMGlobal domain. We would never contact a candidate using a Gmail or Hotmail account for example.
• We would only reach out to candidates who applied through the RPMGlobal website.
• All our open roles are advertised on the website.
• Our employment contracts are extensive.
• We would never send out a cheque to a new employee to purchase equipment.

Protect yourself from employment scams

• Never include personal information such as bank details in your public resume.
• Change your passwords regularly, and enable multi-factor authentication.
• Install anti-virus software on your device.
• Be wary of job advertisements that seem suspicious.
• Don’t click on suspicious links or attachments contained within emails.
• Research into companies and recruiters for verification.
• Be careful of unsolicited job offers where you are contacted through social media, email or direct message.
• Never pay an upfront fee to potential employers without getting a complete description of the purpose of payment.

What to do if you think you’ve been scammed.

RPMGlobal is working to ensure the appropriate authorities are aware and recommend that you report this to your local fraud authority and/or police and do not provide any more personal information.
